Summer of 1999:   This summer I got my first paying job. I worked for the Arc of the Tri-Cities as a camp assistant helping children with developmental disabilities have a rewarding summer.  I was assigned the Richland camp which required me to take the bus with two changes taking 1 hour to get the camp and 1 hour to get back home.  I had volunteered the year before for the Arc and love working with children.  I was able to save my money to help me through out my first year at Kennewick High School.  I also was selected to become a Mediator, one of four teens in the Tri-Cities to help develop programs in the schools. I spent over 40 hours in training and received my training certificate.  By January I hope to be fully certified.   Another project was to work with the Volunteer Center Youth Program Council to develop projects for youth to volunteer this summer.   In between my work, classes I was able to set up four events, recruit volunteers and successfully  complete the projects.  I also attend my first BAND camp, living at the High School for the whole week. What fun, but my feet sure hurt. I was asked to participate in the "It Could Happen Here Conference" for the Contact HelpLine conference.  I presented my feelings on violence and what we can do as Youth to help Stop the Violence

See my volunteer work as a Cadette Girl Scout and Middle School Student.
