Sex in the Media

I was sitting in the mall with my grandma one day during a long day of shopping. We were people watching. I don’t know if anyone else out there does that but it’s really quite fun. Anyway, back on the subject. After about 10 minutes, my grandma suddenly burst out in indignation. She was shocked about “….what young people were wearing these days.”

She could see how young girls were dressing to attract the opposite sex. Most of the were very successful and had boyfriends stringing along carrying their bags full of more clothes for same purpose.

We discussed reasons why things had changed so much since she was young. Our consensus was that parents and the media were the most to blame.

The last of which concerns me most today. The media has been introducing children and young adults to the things about sex that their parents should be teaching them. When kids get comfortable with sexual things, it becomes easier for them to talk to their boyfriends/girlfriends about sex and eventually have sex themselves. This behavior is what is leading to

the heightened rates of teen pregnancy, STDs, and abortions.

There seem to be no signs of change, even with Hollywood's claim to clean up it’s act. My only hope is that parents will learn a lesson from what is happening and do the though thing. Talk to your kids about sex, and lay down some rules to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Don’t let the media guide your  kids down that path.
