Abstinence,
this is the worlds best known birth control
method. If you are shady on the definition of abstinence it means
to have no sex play with a partner. Abstinence is the only birth
control method that is 100% guaranteed not to give you anything.

The condom,
this type of birth control is a polyurethane
or latex sheath put on the males penis that prevents the sperm
joining the egg. Yet the condom is only 86-98% accurate, but it is
best known for preventing STD’s while being sexually active. Yet
there are some drawbacks to condoms. First off they can break then
leak, second they are not 100% guaranteed and third there are some
side effects.

The
Pill,
also known as the birth control pill. This
pill consists of estrogen and progestin or just progestin. It works
by increasing the amount of cervical mucus which prevents the sperm
from joining the egg. Although this pill needs to be taken every
day around the same time or it will not be very effective. The
effectiveness of the pill is 99.7% effective but it won’t save you
from STD’s.

Depo-Provera
is a shot that a clinician
will give the women every three months. The shot has progestin in
it which prevents the egg to release and it also thickens the
cervical mucus to stop the sperm from joining with the egg. This
type off birth control is only 99.7% effective.

The
Female condom.
This is a sock like structure that is composed of polyurethane. It
has a closed end and an open end. The closed end is inserted deep
inside the female while the open end stays out side. This condom is
used to collect semen to prevent it from entering the vagina. The
female condom is only 79-95% effective.

Spermicide
is a type of birth control that you can buy over
the counter. It comes in many different forms like jelly, cream,
foam and more. The spermicide is placed deep in the vagina then it
will dissolve. It will immobilize any sperm that it comes in contact
with. Yet it is only 72-95% effective. (but if you use spermacide
and a condom together it will increase the effectiveness.)
The
cervical cap/diaphragm These are both a
cap shaped dome that is inserted in side the woman’s vagina. Before
insertion the cervical cap or diaphragm needs to be coated with
spermicidal on the inside and outer edge. This will block the
sperm. The diaphragm can be put in place up to 6 hours before
intercourse then can be left in for 24 hours. Although the cervical
cap can also be placed in 6 hours before intercourse it can stay
there for 48 hours. They are both around 80-90% effective.

IUD.
This is a small device that a clinician will give you in your
uterus. It contains copper or the hormone progestin that keep the
sperm from joining the egg, the effectiveness of IUD 97.4-99.2%.

Tubal ligation.
This is a permanent type
of birth control. This is also known as female sterilization. This
is a surgical procedure that either blocks the fallopian tubes from
an egg being released or they will be cut so the sperm and egg can
not join.99.5-99.9% effective.
The
Vasectomy.
This is male fertilization. This is also a
surgical procedure that blocks the sperm from exiting the male’s
body through the male deferens. (The tubes can also be tied off)
The effectiveness of male fertilization is 99.5-99.9% effective.
