| Post Summit
This is a 'summary' of what the ecology super topic have been discussing during the first 6 weeks post-Boston. This ecology group is one of 5 supertopic groups taking part in JRSummit '98 and is an amalgamation of topics 12 - 15. There are currently approximately 30 active participants in the supertopic and we have heard from both our moderators, one of whom has a homework problem. Topics under discussion: Trying to encourage others to take part by emails to conference and directly to summiteers. Our moderator told us that we are the most important people,it is our enthusiasm and work and sticking power that will see us through -and make our dreams and discussion turn into reality. Ecology Group Concensus Model: One delegate had several ideas from his holiday haunt in Hong Kong including the idea that we need a leader and he thought one of the delegates would be a good choice. He also wished not to start serious discussion until mid/end January as 'most people are on holiday'. Both ideas met a mixed reception and it was pointed out that we came from all over the world and different people had holidays at different times - Most felt that if we introduce ourselves and start talking, now is as good a time as any. Most people felt we did not need a leader but could operate successfully using consensus agreement, it was also felt that to nominate someone while they were on holiday without access to internet was a peculiar idea. Inclusion of non-summit participants: There was discussion about how non delegates were felt to be excluded by delegates and several documents were placed on conference to try to fill non delegates in about some of the things that happened in Boston. It was stated that a conscious effort needs to be made to keep non delegates informed about information on other mailing lists and several postings of interest were posted - about CFC, proposed exchange visits, articles needed for Junior Journal, structure of Nation1 and how it affects us. A delegate also continued to say most people are on holiday and we should wait to start work but others disagreed. It was mentioned that only southern hemisphere schools are on holiday now - the rest of us are hard at it (sympathy to one of our member in middle of important exams) Action Plans: There was a call for people to say how their action plan ideas fitted in with the 2 minute ecology presentation - it was explained how difficult this condensing of topics was and the question was posed - what important things were missed out, are there new things we want to put in? |
Action Pack/Amenity Grant
A. delegate from topic 12 shared what topic 12 action plan bits could be ticked off the list and told about an Action Pack developed for his local area for which he has applied for an amenity grant towards the printing costs Ecology LOGO We were asked to discuss our logo and think of suggestions for slogans - the following were mentioned: ? Think Green or GREEN RULZ ? Think Global Act Local + (Think Green?) ? Kids working together to create a better place? The SEAL logo was sent to various people then put on conference. It was explained that our group was known as SEAL - a question was asked - was this OK with everyone? Junior Summit 98 Boston Information We were told about the songs sung in Boston which have been put on the internet at pnm://real.media.mit.edu/JRSummit/dream.rm for topic 12’s Our Dreams and pnm://real.media.mit.edu/JRSummit/world.rm for Children of the World you need a real player to hear them from http://real.com. The presentations from Boston are also on internet at http://home.jrsummit.net/presentations A delegate wished us to compile a list of ICQ numbers, several said it wasn’t possible from them to use them. A delegate sent emergency request that we respond to messages to supply information about our activities to Junior Journal - first issue now available at http://journal.jrsummit.net Junior Journal articles by Ecology Super Topic: We responded to this plea and articles currently being written are Ecology general introduction to our work; article on environmental problems/solutions in Serres, Greece; progess/implementation of community based Action Packs; a chain letter call for action and awareness (intro needed still) Ecology Super Topic Web Page Report: We had a generous offer from INTEAM to put summaries on web page http:www.tcfn.org/jrsummit/topics.htm. They also mentioned http://www.tcfn.org/jrsummit/difference.htm Ecology Super Topic Receives Endorcement of Grant Application: One delegate asked for and received help to support his grant application for funding to print his Action Pack to publicise local recycling facilities. Ecology Super Topic contacts Earth Day orgaization: A delegate (new, older and taller version) has returned home from America after 2 months away - he gave us the unwelcome news that there has been no contact with the Earth Day organisation as yet. |
